How ByteBack prepares your refurbished device

Every refurbished device from ByteBack goes through a structured setup and testing process using our in-house ByteBack Setup Tool. This ensures your device is clean, reliable, and ready to use.

Here’s what we do before you receive it:

1. Clean Windows installation
- We start from a fresh install of Windows.
- Old data, accounts, and software are removed.
- Setup leftovers and temporary files are cleaned up to free space.

2. Hardware checks
- Memory (RAM) is tested for basic stability.
- Storage health is checked using SMART data where supported.
- A quick storage speed test confirms the drive is performing as expected.
- CPU temperature and fan speeds are read (where supported) to ensure cooling is working correctly.
- On laptops, we also check battery health and wear level.

3. Functional tests
- Keyboard input is tested.
- Speakers are tested with a sound tone.
- The webcam is opened and visually checked.
- On laptops, we confirm microphone, webcam, sound, keyboard, and battery behaviour.

4. Windows configuration
- Power settings are adjusted for a good balance of performance and battery life.
- Fast startup and hibernation are disabled to reduce potential issues.
- Microsoft Defender is run with a quick scan.
- Windows Updates are installed (without forcing a reboot).
- Microsoft Edge is set as the preferred browser (and PDF viewer where possible).

5. ByteBack branding and documentation
- A ByteBack wallpaper is applied so you know the device has been prepared by us.
- A “ByteBack Setup Report” is placed on the Desktop, summarising the checks performed.
- A “ByteBack Device Summary” PDF is placed on the Desktop, including:
- Device model and specs
- Serial number
- Windows version and activation status
- Battery and storage health summary
- Warranty information
- How to contact ByteBack for support

Our warranty

Unless otherwise stated on the product page:
- All refurbished devices include a 30-day functional warranty.
- Additional warranty options may be listed per product.
- This warranty works alongside your rights under the Consumer Guarantees Act (CGA).
- We reserve the right to repair, replace, or refund depending on the issue.

Warranty does not cover:
- Physical damage
- Liquid damage
- Misuse or neglect
- Unauthorised repairs or modifications
- Forgotten passwords or account lockouts
